Coach Gary Boren

Coach Boren began his career with the Golden State Warriors, followed by the New York Knicks and since 1997, the 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks. His free throw teaching information is primarily based on what Boren learned from the late Denny Price, father and coach of Mark Price, the best free throw shooter in NBA history. The Mavericks have averaged 79.7% over the past 17 regular seasons, and 80% over the past 16 years in the playoffs. In the 2001 playoffs the Mavericks set an NBA playoff free throw record of 84.8% and in the 2003 playoffs, the Mavericks established another NBA record by making 49 consecutive free throws in one game. The Mavericks of 2002-03, 2008-09 and 2009-10 were three of the top ten regular season NBA free throw shooting teams of all time.

Coach Boren also serves as National Marketing Director of Wooden’s Wisdom, a weekly personal development and motivational email program that details the philosophy and life lesson teachings of the late Hall of Fame Coach John Wooden. Coach Wooden was voted the greatest coach in American history (of all sports), and was presented America’s most prestigious civil award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, by President George W. Bush in 2003. The Wooden’s Wisdom issues have fostered success for individuals, businesses and teams of all types worldwide. The author, Craig Impelman, is an accomplished motivational speaker and his topic is “The Wooden Way”. For information and details about that outstanding program, see www.woodenswisdom.com.
